Thursday After Hours at OMCA | Pop-up Performance: Amihan, Trivia Night, and Gallery Chats

March 27 from 5:00 pm 8:00 pm

Admission ticket required

Adults 18+

This Thursday, get ready for an unforgettable night at OMCA with Amihan and her band, Diwa. Experience two intimate sets featuring fresh arrangements and new instrumentation, perfectly crafted to complement the exhibits in our Gallery of California Art. With a fusion of jazz, folk, and hip hop influences, Amihan’s music will take you on a journey of soulful storytelling, speaking to the struggles and resistance of working-class communities in the Bay Area. Between sets, explore OMCA’s award-winning galleries, grab tasty bites and drinks from Town Fare Café, and vibe to music curated by DJ Mark DiVita. Lastly, celebrate Oakland Restaurant Week by trying your hand at trivia all about California’s food scene, with winners receiving related prizes from the OMCA Shop. This is a night you won’t want to miss!

In addition to a dynamic event experience, every Thursday After Hours also offers guests a well-rounded gallery experience with Gallery Chats. Unlike the traditional museum tour, Gallery Chats invites visitors to chat, ask questions, and connect with our OMCA facilitators who combine content knowledge with lived experience to encourage meaningful dialogue and fresh interpretations of our galleries. Gallery Chats take place in our Special Exhibitions and our Galleries of California Art, History, and Natural Sciences.

Gallery Chats and Thursday After Hours programming are included with the price of general Museum admission for guests, and totally free for Museum Members. Town Fare Café will be open to visitors until 8 pm.

The OMCA garage will be open until 9 pm on Thursdays Jan 9—Mar 27.

About Amihan:

Amihan—harvest wind in Tagalog—is a self-taught musician, emcee, & vocalist born in San Francisco–reppin’ the Excelsior. She was named after the peasant women’s organization based in the countryside of her homeland and was raised through community activism in the city. Rooted in her peoples’ struggle for land & liberation, Amihan’s music fuses Hip Hop and R&B flows with chants of revolution.

Amihan is the guitarist & vocalist of the band Diwa–a cultural group of activists & instrumentalists whose work spans across the Bay Area. Amihan is joined by her sister Malaya on vocals, Kumi Maxson on bass, Julian Lopez on keys & Michael Morales on drums. Using their live performances to support grassroots fundraisers & campaigns throughout SF & the Bay, their music also amplifies the calls of the Filipino people fighting for national democracy and all other oppressed peoples fighting for freedom in their home countries.
