This Friday Night at OMCA brings an evening of high-powered sound, cross-generational groove, and vibrant creative energy! Don’t miss a show-stopping performance by The Dynamic Miss Faye Carol & Her Sextet, an ensemble led by the legendary Bay Area vocalist whose career spans over six decades. From jazz and blues to funk and soul, Faye Carol’s powerhouse vocals and magnetic presence light up the stage, where every note is a celebration of Black musical traditions and community resilience.

In the Gallery of California Art, Sketchboard Co. invites you to dive into your creativity with uninstructed Live Figure Drawing! It’s a perfect opportunity to create something personal and unique while soaking in the Museum’s atmosphere.

We welcome all skill levels, including those who have never drawn before and want to try drawing. Art supplies and clipboards will be available for use, and your artwork will be yours to take home or exchange with others. A costumed model representing the diversity of the Bay Area will be posing in the Gallery of California Art for times ranging from 2 to 20 minutes.  Since drawing will take place in the galleries, please be mindful of space and bring only the following media from home: sketchbooks (max size 9×12 inches) and pre-sharpened enclosed graphite, charcoal, or conté pencils.

As the night unfolds, DJ Hauna Bauna keeps the energy sky-high with a genre-bending DJ set that pulls from Hip-Hop, House, Afrobeats, and beyond. Her deeply danceable soundscapes are designed to move both your body and spirit, uniting the crowd with rhythms that feel both global and deeply personal.

Friday Nights at OMCA also offer guests a well-rounded gallery experience with Gallery Chats. Unlike the traditional museum tour, Gallery Chats invites visitors to chat, ask questions, and connect with our OMCA facilitators, who combine content knowledge with lived experience to encourage meaningful dialogue and fresh interpretations of our exhibitions. Join us at OMCA for a meaningful evening of culture, creativity, and celebration.

About The Dynamic Miss Faye Carol & Her Sextet

Highly regarded for her powerful voice, astonishing versatility, and gift of connecting with her audience, The Dynamic Miss Faye Carol is known as an icon in the Bay Area and beyond. Equally at home in jazz, blues, R&B, gospel, funk, Latin, and Hip-Hop, she has developed her own authentic sound and unique delivery, delighting audiences young and old across the globe. After beginning her career in gospel music, Faye Carol made her name singing with Oakland blues and funk legend Johnny Talbot & De Thangs before forming her own trio and gaining fame in San Francisco’s jazz, blues, and cabaret clubs of the 1970s and ‘80s. With an over 60-year career in music, this living legend has developed her own unique acoustic sound and style in Black Music. Drawing from funk, blues, gospel, and straight-ahead swingin’, she has cultivated an audience that remains as diverse as her uplifting music. She is also a dedicated educator and founder of School of The Getdown, and she has been honored with the proclamation of ‘Faye Carol Day’ in Berkeley and Oakland, inducted into the Oakland Walk of Fame, and awarded a Jazz Journalist Association Jazz Hero Award, Jefferson Award for Public Service, Top Star Awards Entertainer of the Year, and a prestigious Hewlett 50 Arts Commission.
