Friday Nights at OMCA with Off the Grid Featuring A Diwali Celebration

November 4, 2022 from 5:00 pm 9:00 pm

Free

Join us in celebration of Diwali, a festival of lights, with a hands-on rangoli activity.

Schedule of events

5–7 pm – Rangoli making activity, California Room

5–8 pm – Off The Grid food trucks, 10th Street

5–9 pm – Town Fare Sundeck

6–8 pm – DJ Siyah, Amphitheater

Diwali is celebrated by many in parts of South Asia and around the world by the South Asian diaspora. People of different religions, including Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, Buddhists, as well as those who don’t identify as part of a religion, celebrate Diwali in their own way, with their own stories. The festival marks new beginnings, new light to guide us through the year.

To celebrate promising occasions like Diwali, people draw rangolis. Rangoli is an ancient art form native to parts of South Asia including India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, and is made using materials like rice powder, brick powder, chalk powder, flower petals, and colored sand. Visitors can participate in making large rangoli together with various items, and young visitors can have fun with rangoli coloring sheets.

DJ Siyah will be playing in the Amphitheater from 6 to 8 pm.

*Performances are subject to change.
