Build Up to the Big Party
Leading up to the 星期六, 6月 4 Ziggurat event will be two additional program opportunities to celebrate Oakland and support the Museum.

Build Your Own Ziggurat 星期六, 5月 21, from 1 to 4 pm, families can take creative play to the next level by building their own ziggurat in the OMCA gardens. Families will come together and partner with OMCA’s professional exhibitions team to use construction tools and materials as they rotate through different hands-on building stations to add a personal touch to a 12-foot high, walk-in ziggurat sculpture. Tickets are priced $100 per adult + one child and $40 for each additional family member. For tickets, visit museumca.org/ziggurat.

It’s Material 星期日, 5月 22, 10 am to 5 pm, will explore the genius, legacy, and art of legendary Oakland artist Ruth Asawa (1926-2013), who fused techniques of fiber art and metal sculpture into dynamic, signature forms. The day-long event will feature visits to exclusive destinations including the OMCA private collections facility and the artists’ private family home. Asawa’s granddaughter, artist Lilli Lanier, will lead the tour with artists and scholars Mark Johnson and Carin Adams joining in along the way. Each stop will provide an intimate look at the artist’s novel methods, connections to community, and international influence. Tickets are $350, visit museumca.org/ziggurat.
