Inside our Special Exhibition, Por El Pueblo: The Legacy of Malaquías Montoya

Join us for a special edition of Gallery Chats led by Bay Area multimedia artist Arely Hernández, whose artwork is on view in OMCA’s current special exhibition Por el Pueblo: The Legacy and Influence of Malaquías Montoya. Arely will lead visitors in a guided writing experience focused on the exhibition’s themes. Paper and pencils will be provided. Por el Pueblo: The Legacy and Influence of Malaquías Montoya centers around the living impact of Chicano artist, Malaquías Montoya, whose legacy as a public-serving artist, activist, and community leader serves as inspiration for younger generations within the Chicano community and beyond.

Gallery Chats is an opportunity to chat with and ask questions of our enthusiastic and knowledgeable OMCA Facilitators. Gallery Chats put a twist on the traditional museum tour by encouraging meaningful conversations and fresh interpretations to connect with the artwork, artifacts, and stories in our galleries.

About Arely Hernández

Arely Hernández is a multimedia artist born and raised in Los Angeles CA. She is a visual storyteller hoping to share the values of decolonization and a celebration of indigeneity which she gained through her lived experience and relationship with her ancestors. These stories are told primarily through the mediums of paint, print, and ceramics with the desire to evoke a radical sense of joy, love, and resistance. She currently resides in the Bay Area.
