Oakland Museum of California Welcomes Three New Members to its Board of Trustees
(Oakland, CA) Julio 23, 2026 – The Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the appointment of three new Trustees: Bobby C. Martin Jr., Anita I. Martinez, and John Palmer. Bringing expertise in design, public service, labor relations, and public finance, they join the Board at a pivotal moment as OMCA continues to strengthen its role as a civic resource, steward California’s stories, and deepen its impact across Oakland and the state.
Bobby C. Martin Jr. is an award-winning designer and creative leader on the Apple Design Team. Over the course of his career, he has created influential brand identities for culture-shaping organizations, including Carnegie Hall, MTV, the National Basketball Association, and The New York Times. Martin also co-founded Champions Design, a strategy and design agency with offices in Oakland and New York City. He is known for his commitment to mentorship, advancing equity in design, and creating projects that amplify underrepresented voices.
Anita I. Martinez returns to the OMCA Board after previously serving as both Trustee and Board Chair. A respected labor relations leader, she worked as a neutral labor relations professional until retiring from the gubernatorial-appointed position as Chair of the California Public Employment Relations Board (PERB). She had previously worked for the National Labor Relations Board and the Agricultural Labor Relations Board. During her tenure at PERB, Martinez served as a mediator in hundreds of labor/management disputes, helping the parties resolve their unfair practice and representation cases. As Chair, she led the Board in issuing hundreds of decisions.
John Palmer is a partner in the San Francisco office of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe. He specializes in financings for cities, counties, transportation agencies, schools and community colleges. He is from Oakland, and works with many local agencies, including the City of Oakland, Oakland Unified School District, Peralta Community College District, and BART. He has also served on the boards of several local nonprofits, including the Oakland Public Education Fund, Ecole Bilingue de Berkeley, and the California Alumni Association.

The appointments bring OMCA’s Board of Trustees to 33 members, who collectively provide strategic leadership, governance, and philanthropic support for the Museum as it advances its mission to inspire all Californians to create a more vibrant future for themselves and their communities.

VISITOR INFORMATION
The Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) is located at 1000 Oak Street, at 10th Street, in Oakland. All-inclusive Museum admission is $25 general admission; $22 for seniors; $18 for youth ages 12 to 17, as well as for students and educators with valid ID; and free for Members and children 12 and under. OMCA offers onsite underground parking and is conveniently located one block from the Lake Merritt BART station, on the corner of 10th Street and Oak Street. An accessibility ramp is located at the 1000 Oak Street main entrance to the Museum.
