Join us at OMCA as Vân-Ánh Vanessa Võ & her musical ensemble present Mekong: LIFE Work-In-Progress Concert  in the James Moore Theater.

Program Schedule:

6–8 pm Music by DJ Lady Fingaz (Amphitheater)

A modern interpretation of a traditional myth, Mekong: LIFE explores the push and pull between human and natural life and what the future holds for the next generation using traditional instruments from Southeast Asia, graphic global warming data, electronic music, live-media, and a Cambodian myth about natural cycles. 

Enjoy music by DJ Lady Fingaz from 6 to 8 pm. 

About Vân-Ánh Vanessa Võ

Emmy® Award-winning composer Vân-Ánh Vanessa Võ brings Vietnamese traditional music to a broader audience by blending the wonderfully unique sounds of Vietnamese instruments with other music genres. Võ has presented her music at Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, and Lincoln Center and is the first Vietnamese artist to perform at the White House, receiving the Artist Laureate Award for her community contributions through the arts during President Obama’s administration. She co-composed and arranged the Oscar® nominated and Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner for Best Documentary, Daughter from Danang (2002), the Emmy® Award-winning film and soundtrack for Bolinao 52 (2008), and “Best Documentary” and “Audience Favorite” winner, A Village Called Versailles (2009). Võ was a 2021 recipient of a Hewlett 50 Art Commission to create the second part of the Mekong trilogy, “Mekong: LIFE”, premiering at Stanford University in April 2023.

About Lady Fingaz

Lady Fingaz, DJ/turntablist/vocalist/producer, is based out of Oakland, CA. She’s a founding member, lead producer DJ and singer for Femme Deadly Venoms and is the touring DJ for Grammy award winning NOLA artist Nicholas Payton and Bay Area’s own Lateef the Truthspeaker. With her crew LFDV, she placed second in the 2010 USA Team DMC competition. In 2016 she was the first DJ to ever perform inside the Jazz Tent at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Her produced single with Femme Deadly Venoms’ Femmenomenon, was featured on CBS show, Equalizer,starring Queen Latifah. Check out her new album Hi-Fi Lo-Fi out on all platforms!
