Oakland Museum of California’s Artist and Curator: In Conversation video series features sit-down conversations between artists and curators that explore voice, perspective, and the motivations that shape the diversity of exhibition artworks. Every discussion brings to light how the representation of art, film, and design play a crucial role in the cultural nuances of California’s lived experiences.

Filmed in the Oakland Museum of California’s Great Hall, filmmaker and artist Adrian Burrell discusses the personal and political influences of his works, “The Bottle Tree” and “Imperial Boomerang” with curator Dania Talley, as part of the Black Spaces: Reclaim and Remain exhibition. Through archival films and video art, he details the meaning of the dandelion flower as a metaphor for the African diaspora.

Black Spaces is on view through March 1, 2026—don’t miss it!
