Wildly Popular White Elephant Preview Sale Returns for its 61st Year March 7 & 8, 2020; Preview Sale Held January 26, 2020

(OAKLAND, CA) December 17, 2019The White Elephant Sale (WES), an annual Bay Area tradition and the biggest and best rummage sale in Northern California, returns to Oakland March 7 and 8, 2020, marking the event’s 61st year. Shoppers will have the first opportunity to shop during the Preview Sale, which takes place on Sunday, January 26 from 10 am to 4 pm.

For the past five years, the Sale has raised over $2 Million each year to support the Oakland Museum of California. Proceeds from the Sale, which is organized and presented by the Oakland Museum Women’s Board, benefit the Oakland Museum of California’s programming and exhibitions.

 

During the Preview Sale and the regular Sale dates, a range of quality used goods, including furniture, artwork, household items, ceramics, sporting goods, fine jewelry, collectibles, tools, music, books, and vintage and contemporary apparel, will be sold in the 96,000-square-feet warehouse at 333 Lancaster Street. The event is made possible by donations from the public and with the help of more than 1,000 volunteers.

 

The White Elephant Sale continues to create one of the most memorable shopping experiences in the Bay Area and California, offering an array of second-hand treasures perfect for collectors, art lovers, musicians, vintage and retro enthusiasts, and anyone looking for a good deal on remarkable items. Sale hours are from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8. Admission is free.

 

Those looking for early access to the White Elephant Sale’s wealth of goods can attend the Preview Sale on Sunday, January 26 from 10 am to 4 pm. Preview Sale tickets are $18 in advance at the OMCA Store and online through the WES website, and $20 at the door on the day of the Preview Sale. More information on how to purchase tickets can be found at WhiteElephantSale.org. Children under 12 are admitted free to the Preview Sale but must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

 

Shoppers are advised to arrive early and wear comfortable shoes. A complimentary roundtrip shuttle service from the Fruitvale BART to the WES warehouse will be provided for the January 26 Preview Sale and on the March 7 and 8 White Elephant Sale days. No pets, strollers, shopping carts, backpacks, food, or drinks are allowed in the WES warehouse. A secure Check Stand is available at the Lancaster Street entrance to check these items while shopping but space is limited.

ABOUT THE OAKLAND MUSEUM WOMEN’S BOARD

The sole purpose of the Oakland Museum Women’s Board (OMWB), a dedicated group with 114 year-round members, has been to raise money to support the Oakland Museum of California acquisitions, exhibitions, educational programs, capital improvements, and more. Since 1959, the OMWB has contributed over $23 million to the Museum. With the help of a thousand dedicated volunteers, they work year-round to organize and present the White Elephant Sale held annually during the first weekend in March which attracts shoppers from the Bay Area and beyond.
