Oakland Museum of California Announces Friday Nights @ OMCA Summer Season Expansion

The Oakland Museum of California, in partnership with Off the Grid is excited to announce the expansion of the popular, family-friendly Friday night market event, Friday Nights @ OMCA. Starting April 8 and running through October 28, 2016, Friday Nights @ OMCA will expand open hours to 10 pm, while offering additional programming and later access to Museum galleries due to popular demand. Off the Grid will increase its food truck lineup from 13 to 20 vendors, expanding from 10th Street up Oak Street, wrapping around to the front steps of the Museum. The OMCA Gardens will be open in the evenings for additional seating as well as picnic table rentals for birthdays & celebrations.

 

Friday Nights @ OMCA highlights include:

 

·    A rotating lineup of delicious savory and sweet food truck vendors from Off the Grid

·      Half-price museum admission, along with extended gallery and OMCA store hours till 10 pm

·    The “Go Local Music Series” with a new acoustic set in the Oak Street Plaza

·    Makers & Tasters Series with local brewers, coffee roasters, organic farmers, and authors hosting talks, demos, and tastings on the first and last Friday of the month, from 6–8 pm. The last Friday of every month, the Makers & Tasters        Series will feature local vendors from Whole Foods Market.

·    Live music, DJs, and family-friendly dance lessons based on the weekly music themes.

·    Free hands-on art workshops for all ages, and on Fridays, featured story time with the Oakland Public Library from 6–6:30 pm.

ABOUT FRIDAY NIGHTS @ OMCA
The Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) presents Friday Nights @ OMCA, a regular evening series every Friday from 5 to 9 pm—and starting April 8 through October 28, 5 to 10pm—in partnership with Off the Grid: Lake Merritt @ OMCA. Friday Nights @ OMCA features extended Museum hours, in-gallery programming, a beer garden from Blue Oak café, live music, dancing, hands-on family activities, and more. Gallery admission is half-off for adults, free for ages 18 and under. Event parking in the Museum garage is $5. Presented in partnership with Off the Grid: Lake Merritt @ OMCA. Friday Nights @ OMCA is made possible in part by generous support from Bank of America, the Oakland Museum Women’s Board, The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and the Koret Foundation.

Off the Grid markets are founded on the idea of bringing communities together through amazing shared food experiences. Started in 2010, Off the Grid currently operates over 45 weekly public markets throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. VISITOR INFORMATION
The Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) is at 1000 Oak Street, at 10th Street, in Oakland. Museum admission is $15.95 general; $10.95 seniors and students with valid ID, $6.95 youth ages 9 to 17, and free for Members and children 8 and under. OMCA offers onsite underground parking and is conveniently located one block from the Lake Merritt BART station, on the corner of 10th Street and Oak Street.
