2009 Días de los Muertos

The 2009 Días de los Muertos online project showcases an appreciation of the tradition of honoring ancestors with roots in Mesoamerica, and celebrates the legacy and influences of Días de los Muertos in contemporary life. Altars (ofrendas) bring people together to honor ancestors, heal the loss of loved ones, raise awareness of the issues affecting our communities, nurture unity, and inspire communal involvement. Providing a forum for the Días de los Muertos tradition to grow and expand through new artistic expressions—including digital technology—is a vital element of keeping the tradition alive and relevant to contemporary lives.
