Spotlight Sundays: Gospel at the Museum

Spotlight Sundays: Gospel at the Museum

February 16 from 2:00 pm 3:30 pm

$1 – $30 Sliding scale

This Black History Month, immerse yourself in the rich history and power of gospel music at the museum. Created by Dr. Adam “Ology” Rogers—radio station owner, music producer, and community organizer—this multimedia experience explores the deep connection between gospel music and African American history. Emceed by KPOO radio personality DJ Sherita (Re Re) Evans, this soul-stirring performance is more than just a show—it’s a living testament to the power of faith, music, and storytelling as instruments of hope and empowerment.

Featuring some of the most renowned gospel artists, the event takes visitors on a journey through African American narratives, from their national significance to their local roots in the Bay Area. Experience how gospel music has sustained hope, sparked transformation, and bridged generations—beginning with hymns of resistance during slavery, to anthems of the Civil Rights Movement, and the vibrant sounds of modern gospel.

The event kicks off at 2 p.m., and if you’re looking to make it a full experience, start your Sunday with a delicious brunch at Town Fare by Michele McQueen on OMCA’s Mid Level (open from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.). McQueen’s menu, inspired by her Southern roots and Oakland upbringing, offers the perfect complement to this celebratory day.
