The White Elephant Sale is a Bay Area tradition and the largest rummage sale in Northern California. Organized by the Oakland Museum Women’s Board, the White Elephant Sale is the biggest annual fundraising event benefiting the Oakland Museum of California (OMCA). The sale returns for the 2025 season starting with its Preview Sale on January 26, 10 am– 3 pm and runs through the beginning of March. About The Oakland Museum Women’s Board

The White Elephant Sale is held annually in the Spring, attracting shoppers of all ages from the greater Bay Area and beyond.

The sole purpose of the Oakland Museum Women’s Board (OMWB), a dedicated group with 114 year-round members, has been to raise money to support the Oakland Museum of California acquisitions, exhibitions, educational programs, capital improvements, and more. Since 1959, the OMWB has contributed over $30 million to the Museum. With the help of a thousand dedicated volunteers, they work year round to organize and present the White Elephant Sale held annually during the Spring.

Spotlight Sundays: Cultural Fire Storytelling and Film Screening

Please join us for an afternoon of storytelling centering Native fire practices from four visionary Native Californian memory keepers. The program will begin with a film screening of Fire Tender, co-directed by Roni Jo Draper, PhD (Yurok) and Marissa Lila Kongao, which shares context on settler colonial fire suppression, highlights the work of Yurok firelighters to reclaim and pass on traditional eco-cultural knowledge, and meditates on the power of fire to heal land and communities.
