Connecting People and Purpose: Join the OMCA Volunteer Experience

Here at OMCA, our volunteers do more than lend a hand, they embody the spirit of connection, equity, and service that defines our museum’s mission. From helping guests navigate our galleries to supporting impactful community events, OMCA volunteers are vital storytellers, guides, and cultural ambassadors who bring the Museum to life.

Earlier this month, a group of OMCA’s dedicated volunteers gathered to support BBQ Without Borders, a vibrant event that brought people together through food, conversation, and culture. Behind every smile and plate served was a volunteer offering their time and care. They came early to set up, welcomed guests, and ensured that everyone felt at home. It’s moments like these that show how volunteering at OMCA is about more than tasks, it’s about meaningful engagement.

Why Volunteer at OMCA?

Volunteering at OMCA offers a unique opportunity to connect deeply with art, history, and science. Volunteers support everything from gallery exploration and educational tours to school group visits, family programs, and special exhibitions.

OMCA volunteers can expect copious opportunities to engage with diverse audiences, support culturally responsive programming, and build relationships across communities. Whether you’re a lifelong Oaklander or new to the Bay Area, volunteering at OMCA means being part of a collective story about California, told through many voices, perspectives, and lived experiences.
