Friday Nights at OMCA with Off the Grid | Black History Month Dance Battle; DJ CAVEM

Join us for a Black History Month Dance Battle, hosted by Oakland TURF dancer Telice Summerfield.
Program Schedule:
5 – 8 pm – Off the Grid Service
5 – 7 pm – Black History Dance Battle hosted by Telice Summerfield (Amphitheater)
7 – 9 pm – Music by DJ CAVEM (Amphitheater)
Join us for a Black History Month Dance Battle in OMCA’s Amphitheater. Hosted by Oakland TURF dancer and community organizer Telice Summerfield, this event will feature four main event 1-on-1 exhibition battles, plus an all-women “7toSmoke” tournament in which 7 dancers will all compete against each other. The first dancer with 7 wins the tournament!
Following their performance, enjoy music by DJ CAVEM from 7 to 9 pm.
This evening’s performances will take place outdoors in the Amphitheater – make sure to wear warm clothes and bundle up.
About Telice Summerfield
Telice is an incredible dancer, educator, and community leader who has worked closely with OMCA on culturally illuminating projects. She currently teaches dance at an elementary school in West Oakland, and is very passionate about bringing people together through creativity. Telice created her own all ladies virtual dance platform called PxssyPower Dance (@pxssypowerdance) to help uplift the empowering relationship of dance, identity, and community. Her goals include cultivating shared spaces for meaningful creative experiences of which every person walks away feeling inspired.
About the Main Event Dancers
Yaameen “Yaya” Muhammad is from Oakland, California, representing the dance crew, Turf Feinz. Yaya can be followed on Instagram @gaslif3 and Facebook at Yaameen Muhammad.
Miguel aka “Okami” is a French TURF dancer from the dance team, Best Alive. Born and raised in Paris, Okami’s goal is to share TURF dancing in Europe and around the world. Find Okami’s work at @okamibestalive on Instagram.
Hector “Intricate” Ascencio is from Hayward, CA. Intricate is a Tutting/TURF dancer, and has been dancing in both styles for 16 years. Intricate is a 2x W.O.D. champion and a Semi Finalist for Fusion Concept in France, and has also competed in RedBull’s “Dance Your Style”. Over the years, Intricate has experienced and worked with many artists such as G-Eazy, Kendrick Lamar, & Troyboi, and represents the following dance crews: Unknown, Tutgodz, Assassins Crew & Izakaya Squad
Gideon Mekwunye Jr is a songwriter/dancer/DJ who goes by the stage names of Gid-Nasty, Giddy, and 95. Gideon is the founder of a dance crew called Ace Mob (Artistic Creative Energetic Men of Brilliance) and co-founder of a dance crew called The Oakland Originalz.
7toSmoke Lady Dancers:
Nia, Turfer Girl, Danaite, Kai-Boogie, Lei-Lei Star, Daisy, and CeCe.
