Art Speaks Loud Gallery Inquiry Lab

How do artists use their voice to speak out about issues on the environment, identity, and community? Investigate how art can be a powerful tool to talk about the issues that matter most to students in California. Students will work together to make connections between themselves and the artists and artworks in the gallery. During a hands-on workshop, students will create an individual piece of art to raise awareness about an issue important to them and their communities.

  • 60-minute guided inquiry in the Gallery of California Art
  • 60-minute hands-on creative workshop during which students will create an individual print inspired by the art in the gallery

Grades 4-5

Times: 9:30 am, 10:45 am

This is not your typical museum tour and workshop! In the gallery, OMCA educators and volunteers will facilitate student-driven investigation of the galleries using program themes and inquiry routines. Students will have time to explore the gallery, before coming together at the end to share their findings. Afterward, students will apply their ideas during a hands-on workshop.
