Innovative DJ Yuka Yu spins dance music all evening in the 10th Street Amphitheater. \n\n\n\n6—7 pm – Salsa and Bachata with Samantha Velazquez\, Oak Street Plaza6—7:30 pm – Gambizi & Dos Four\, OMCA Garden6–8 pm – Free photo booth\, near the Redwood Burl6–8 pm – Gallery Activation Hours\, Great Halll6:30—8:30 pm – DJ Yuka Yu\, 10th Street Amphitheater \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAbout Gambizi & Dos Four \n\n\n\nGambizi & Dos Four blend Caribbean and Afro-Latin rhythms like Salsa\, Cumbia\, Salsa Choque\, Latino House\, and Hip Hop. These two local artists have been making music in the Bay Area for a number of years; Gambizi as a Hip-Hop artist and Dos Four as a Latin Artist. Lead singer and songwriter Leyder Chapman was born in Holguín\, Eastern Cuba and raised in Havana. Chapman’s talent for performing started at a young age and wrote his first song\, “Yo Te Amo Verdad\,” at the age of fourteen. After arriving in Oakland\, he founded SAOCO\, a band specializing in the fusion of Cuban rhythms with popular Reggaeton. It was at this time that Chapman’s name as a musical artist\, Dos Four\, was formed. Gambizi and Dos Four were introduced by a mutual friend in 2012 and have been working together along with their band ever since. \n\n\n\nAbout Yuka\n\n\n\nYuka became serious about making her own music and started DJing in London in Camden Town\, training at the London Sound Academy in 2018. She has opened for electronic artists like Cosmic Gate\, The Crystal Method\, Audien\, Valentino Khan\, Poolside\, and Eric Prydz\, and live bands such as ALO\, The California Honeydrops\, and Rebirth Brass Band all while playing in premiere venues and nightclubs all over London\, East Asia\, and North America. Their chill-folk-electronic-soul music is shaped by their story of redefining what “success” and “happiness” means\, especially through their lens as Filipino-Americans\, a Queer couple\, healers\, survivors of violence and homelessness.Create your own art from a life model with Sketchboard in the California room! Sketchboard is a collective that has run multiple weekly figurative drawing events in SF and Oakland for 10 years\, with the mission of bringing artists and bodies from underrepresented minorities to the arts. The workshop is for all ages and  includes two hours of clothed\, life drawing with a professional art model. Art supplies will be provided. Space is limited to 40 seats\, first come\, first served. Oak leaves will be used in the installation to honor the earth and they are meant to symbolize the role that family and place have in holding and creating memory. The manner of one’s death determined one’s place in the afterlife. The dead were buried with the artifacts of daily life and offerings of food and drink. Festivals and altars dedicated to the dead enhanced connection and mutual assistance between the living and the dead.  \n\n\n\nThe European beliefs and rituals of death were rooted in Christianity. The Spanish conquest of Mexico occurred in 1521. The evangelizing Catholic clergy attempted to erase the belief systems of the Native peoples. In time\, the Native funerary rituals were incorporated into the Catholic November 1st feast of All Saints Day and the November 2nd feast of All Souls. La manera como uno moría determinaba su lugar en el más allá.  Los muertos eran enterrados con los artefactos de la vida diaria y con las ofrendas de comida y bebida. Los festivales y altares dedicados a los muertos mejoraban la conexión y la asistencia mutua entre los vivos y los muertos. \n\n\n\nLas creencias y los rituales europeos de la muerte estaban enraizados en la cristiandad. La conquista española de México se cumplió en 1521. El clero católico evangelista intentó borrar los sistemas de creencias de los nativos. Con el tiempo\, los rituales fúnebres nativos fueron incorporados a la fiesta católica de Todos los Santos el 1 de noviembre y la fiesta de Todos los Fieles Difuntos el 2 de noviembre. These specific dances are rooted in Tacuba\, Mexico. Camila has slammed since the age of fourteen and competed in the 2017 National Poetry Slam on Team Oakland. For over a decade\, she has workshopped performance poetry with underserved youth. As a bisexual womxn of color\, Camila explores the intersections of power and poetry. Camila currently teaches spoken word workshops in the East Bay. \nCamila Elizabet Aguirre Aguilar es una mujer xicana\, guerrera\, estudiante\, educadora y poeta. Jr. is a Mexican-American spoken word poet and organizer born and raised in Oakland. He has performed with the UCSC CUPSI slam team and the Legendary Collective in Santa Cruz. His work explores im/migration\, indigeneity\, the hood\, queerness\, feminism\, and decolonial frameworks. Tino makes a huge impact in the classroom working with K-12 students teaching spoken word. \nTino V. H. Jr. es un poeta y organizador mexicano-estadounidense nacido y criado en Oakland. Se ha presentado con el equipo de slam CUPSI de la UCSC y con el Legendary Collective de Santa Cruz. Su trabajo explora la in/migración\, la indigeneidad\, el barrio\, la homosexualidad\, el feminismo y los marcos decoloniales. Tino tiene un gran impacto en las aulas\, donde enseña poesía a alumnos de primaria y secundaria. \n\n \n \n \n\n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n Briana Victoria Leung\n \n Briana Victoria Leung is a 19 year old Bay Area based queer non-binary Afro Asian Latinx storyteller and healer who has been writing\, performing\, and competing in the local slam poetry scene for the last eight years. Briana represented the Bay Area on an all-BIPOC femme team during the 2018 Brave New Voice National Poetry Competition in Houston\,Texas. Today they can be found working as a poet mentor teaching youth poetry workshops with Bay Area Creative’s SPARC Poetry program\, which is the same program that initially introduced Briana to poetry in elementary school. \nBriana Victoria Leung es une narradore y sanadore queer no binarie afroasiatique latine de 19 años que reside en el Área de la Bahía de San Francisco y lleva ocho años escribiendo\, actuando y compitiendo en la escena local de la poesía slam.
