New merchandise will be added throughout the sale. Reserve your spot for $5 per day. A banjoist\, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist\, Hannah founded the Black Banjo Reclamation Project and is currently existing in Oakland and throughout the West Coast Corridor. Hannah was born and raised in Sacramento\, where the waters flow from Mount Shasta to the Oak Savanna foothills lining the valley\, to the delta and the bay. \n\n\n\nMayree is a storyteller and creates a musical backdrop\, weaving in folk music as a communication between cultures and through time. Composed while traversing Turtle Island\, the American landscape\, communing with people and plants\, their songs incorporate African rhythms and diverse European and modern American folk traditions to express the profound mystery contained within all beings. Through tools of community gathering\, social permaculture and self healing\, new realities are constantly being crafted and actualized. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Black Banjo Reclamation Project\n\n\n\nThe Black Banjo Reclamation Project is a vehicle to return instruments of African origin to the descendants of their original makers. Our theory of change is tied directly to re-appropriating our own culture by receiving banjos in the form of reparations and over time\, gaining skills that will advance individuals and communities for generations to come. This includes ancestral survival and land based skills including fostering the trade of instrument building and repair. Du Bois’ prolific statistical work by using interactive data visualizations created by Oakland based artists to illustrate trajectories impacted by both pro and anti-Black futures. Exhibit A is supported by participating policy makers and city workers from critical sectors including leaders from the Department of Race and Equity and is an expression of Oakland’s community. \n\n\n\nBetween digital interfaces\, augmented reality experiences\, and interactive workshops designed to spark conversation and critical engagement\, this experience is one meant to be amplified. \n\n\n\nParticipants are enlisted to engage their own friends through social media by sharing images of the art and their response to it\, and offering visions and forecasts for the future of Oakland. \n\n\n\nThe community dialogue will be moderated by journalist and host of Hard Knock Radio DJ Davey D and educator\, community leader\, and Exhibit A co-producer\, Hodari Davis. This 22-minute film illuminates the struggles and triumphs of Chicana womxn during this era and is considered to be the first major feminist Chicana documentary. Her projects are invested in challenging and unlearning settler-colonial ideology\,  while simultaneously re-centering Indigenous thought and practice.   \nGilda received her AB from UC Davis in Chicana/o Studies and Comparative Literature. She  graduated with a dual degree from California College of the Arts in the MFA Social Practice  program and the M.A. Visual and Critical Studies program. Prior to her graduate work\, she  served as the Curator for Galería de la Raza in San Francisco\, CA. Gilda also served as Assistant  Director for Taller Arte del Nuevo Amanecer in Woodland\, CA\, where she assisted in  coordinating Chicana/o /x programming and in leading free silk-screen workshops for youth and  community members. Gilda is a Ph.D. candidate in History of Art at Cornell University\, where  she is completing her dissertation “Reigniting the Sacred Fire: An Analysis of Chicana Indigenous and Queer Chicanx Art\,” that articulates how Chicana/o/x artists have used  materiality\, print mediums\, and visual culture as a method to re-connect to their Indigenous  knowledges\, ceremonies\, creation stories\, and medicines. Performer. Instructor. Musician. Originally from San Jose\, California\, Claire’s first instrument was the trombone\, which she played from fifth grade through her undergraduate education at University of California\, Santa Cruz.  It was there that she discovered her love of singing and went on to earn her Bachelor of Music in Operatic Vocal Performance in 2008. Chapman’s talent for performing started at a young age and wrote his first song\, “Yo Te Amo Verdad\,” at the age of fourteen. After arriving in Oakland\, he founded SAOCO\, a band specializing in the fusion of Cuban rhythms with popular Reggaeton. It was at this time that Chapman’s name as a musical artist\, Dos Four\, was formed. Along with several successful collaborations over the years\, Dos Four has been growing strong ever since. \n\n\n\n\n\nLady Ryan is a Bay Area favorite – inspiring a sense of safety\, joy\, and belonging as a spiritual conductor and dedicate/d professional. Her passion for music can be heard throughout the Bay Area and beyond\, whether she’s energizing the crowd at Warriors games\, hosting one of her celebrated Soulovely or Sweetspot parties\, or gracing the airwaves of 91.7 KALW in San Francisco. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the Bay Area music scene in 2023 alone\, Lady Ryan was voted best DJ in the Bay Area by Bay Area Reporter Magazine and honored by the CIty of Oakland for her leadership in LGBTQ music and arts communities.  Lady Ryan has shared the stage with legendary artists such as Diana Ross\, George Clinton\, Erykah Badu\, Journey\, Indigo Girls\, and Anderson Paak. Celebrating 20 years of productions in 2024\, it is one of the major platforms in North America for Punjabi music and a staple in the SF Bay Area arts culture. Highlighting the ancestral roots of the Punjabi dance while pushing boundaries with contemporary influences\, Non Stop Bhangra is a genre-busting elixir of North Indian Bhangra music and dance\, mixed with reggae\, hip-hop\, and electronica. Featuring dance lessons and dance performances with Dholrhythms Dance Company\, an ever evolving and eclectic mix of DJs\, live drummers\, and guest musicians\, it’s a treat for the eyes and ears and a one-of-a-kind experience only found in the Bay Area. \n\n\n\n\n\nBlack has always loved music and while growing up in Houston\, she started collecting records. When she moved to the Bay Area in 1991\, Black brought her records and a dream of doing music. She recalls seeing Chris C. and Pam the Funkstress perform\, and knew then that she wanted to be a female DJ. Black learned her craft 30 years ago from Sexy DJ at The Catch One in Los Angeles. Nadeeah helped her hone her skills and taught her how to get gigs. She has played alongside DJs including MAW\, Fuse\, Digit\, J Boogie\, Rusty Lazer\, and Trackademicks. She\nserves as founder and director of Indigenous Justice. Dedicated to raising awareness and\nvisibility within the unique climate of California’s urban and rural Native communities\, Gali\ncoordinates support of Indigenous-led policies and campaigns. \nMs. Gali continues to lead large-scale actions while coordinating Native cultural\, spiritual\,\nacademic\, and political gatherings throughout California. She is deeply committed to advocating\nfor Indigenous sovereignty issues such as missing and murdered Indigenous women (MMIW)\nand peoples\, climate justice\, gender justice\, and sacred sites protection on behalf of the tribal\nand inter-tribal communities in which she was raised. She’s served as a volunteer and advocate\non behalf of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated Indigenous peoples in California\, working\nwith a number of Indigenous-led grassroots organizations in the Bay Area for over two decades.
