With roots reaching back to pre-Columbian Mesoamerica\, the Tree of Life continues to represent the heavens (home of the divinities)\, the earth (home of humankind)\, and the underworld (home of the dead).   \n\n\n\nThe Tree of Life is a motif found in many cultures and beliefs around the world. It often symbolizes that life and death are equal partners in the continuation of life. We invite you to reflect on your family roots and your connections to our community.  \n\n\n\nThis installation was created in conjunction with the Oakland Museum of California’s annual commemoration of the Day of the Dead celebration by members of the Museum’s volunteer Día de los Muertos Committee. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOakland Museum of CaliforniaDía de los Muertos Committee\n\n\n\nLuz Alvarez Martinez\, Chrissy Cano\, Bea Carrillo-Hocker\, Juanita Chavez-Gordon\, Alicia Diaz\, Sheyla Duarte\, Isaac Emrick\, Angelita M. While we were created to provide a gender-inclusive home for 22-50 year-old Chinese dancers\, we are open to anyone who shares our passion for creating new work in traditional arts and original interpretations of derived pieces\, regardless of age\, national origin\, gender\, or other dance team/studio affiliations. Our goal is not to replicate the traditional studio model\, but to focus on original choreographies and solos that better fit with working adults’ schedules while democratizing individual dancers’ artistic voice. We hope to connect traditional audiences with local issues\, and use our public engagement to introduce new communities to the diversity of Chinese dance. \n\n \n \n \n\n \n\n \n	\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n Oliver Chin\n \n Oliver Chin is the author of over 20 books\, including Tales from the Chinese Zodiac and More Awesome Asian Americans: 20 Citizens Who Enriched America.
