October in the OMCA Store

Our favorite Days of the Dead art, crafts, and gifts

By OMCA Staff

Get in the Fall spirit with the OMCA Store, featuring a fresh selection of Days of the Dead-themed artwork, apparel, decorations, and more in conjunction with our new Days of the Dead exhibition, Metamorphosis & Migration (on view through January 14, 2018) and Community Celebration on Sunday, October 22. We think you’ll love to see them around your home year-round, but maybe we’re biased…

Here are our don’t-miss highlights:

OMCA Days of the Dead Mugs
These enameled tin mugs inspired by calaveras (traditional sugar skulls) are as perfect for camping (as one OMCA staffer can attest!) as they are brightening up your morning cafecito. Prefer ceramic to tin? We’ve got you covered.

Paper-mache calaca masks
These plain masks are waiting for your creativity to breathe new life into them. Fun for all ages and artistic inclinations! Feeling less hands-on? Pick up a calaca sculpture or figurine to set the mood without all the work.

Honor Frida
The inimitable and beloved Frida Kahlo’s life and artworks resonate with the Days of the Dead themes of honoring life and exploring mortality, as well as her passion for the indigenous cultures of Mexico. Check out the exquisitely crafted book Frida with layered die-cut art by Benjamin Lacombe that makes each painting come alive—you have to see it in person!—and more Frida-themed treats in the Store.

Inside the OMCA Store, you’ll also find handmade embroidered clothing and pillows, wearable plush butterfly wings, handcrafted calaca jewelry, and an array of cool books. Whether you stop by during your visit to our Community Celebration on Sunday to shop the special Days of the Dead Mercado, or you come straight for the shopping at the OMCA Store, enjoy perusing our latest features in the OMCA Store this month!
