Jennifer will share her personal practice\, discuss the plants and materials used in traditional basketry\, and walk audiences through key steps of gathering\, cleaning\, splitting\, and preparing materials. Enjoy an up-close look at her artistry\, learn the difference between twined and coiled techniques\, and take part in a lively Q&A. \n\n\n\nAs part of this program\, attendees are also invited to explore OMCA’s new exhibition Good Fire: Tending Native Lands\, which highlights Indigenous knowledge\, cultural burning\, and stewardship practices across California. \n\n\n\nThis program is a part of our exhibition programming for Good Fire: Tending Native Lands on view at OMCA from November 7\, 2025\, through May 31\, 2026. A founding board member and former long-standing chair of the California Indian Basketweavers Association\, she has represented California’s basketry traditions at institutions such as the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian and curated numerous exhibitions across the state. Jennifer’s work spans cultural education\, arts leadership\, and community advocacy\, and she continues to share her deep knowledge through workshops\, demonstrations\, and public presentations. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAccessibility\n\n\n\nOakland Museum of California (OMCA) is committed to providing programs that are accessible\, welcoming\, and inclusive of our community. For this month’s installment of Member Tours at OMCA\, come in your walking shoes ready to explore the wonders of Oakland’s natural history. Join us for a special nature walk led by OMCA’s Curator of Natural Science\, Ryder Diaz. \n\n\n\nThe tour will begin at the Mid Level Ticketing Desk and then move through the OMCA Garden to learn more about the habitat in our own backyard. Next\, Diaz will lead the group out of our 12th Street entrance to highlight the natural history of Lake Merritt and its surrounding creeks. While staying within the vicinity of the Museum\, the group will be prompted to notice the various birds and critters along the way! The walk will conclude back at OMCA’s Gallery of California Natural Sciences with a chance to reflect on what visitors saw during the tour. Come join us in the new year for a fun and engaging way to connect with each other and our surroundings! \n\n\n\n*Please note that tour spots are limited and that a small number of binoculars will be available (first come\, first served). They have helped to develop science-related exhibitions at Bay Area museums for the past decade. Ryder brings an interdisciplinary background and approach to his work: He has degrees in Science Communication\, Population Biology\, Metropolitan Studies\, and Gender and Sexuality Studies. All materials will be provided. This intimate workshop emphasizes close instruction\, cultural context\, and an opportunity to learn directly from two experienced weavers. \n\n\n\nThis workshop is a part of our exhibition programming for Good Fire: Tending Native Lands on view at OMCA from November 7\, 2025\, through May 31\, 2026. SUMMARY:67th Annual White Elephant Preview Sale
DESCRIPTION:Friday Nights at OMCA with The Whoadees and Special Guests\n\n        \n    \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganized by the Oakland Museum Women’s Board (OMWB)\, the White Elephant Sale is the largest rummage sale in Northern California and the biggest annual fundraising event benefiting the Oakland Museum of California (OMCA). The sale returns for the 2026 season\, starting with its Preview Sale on January 25\, 10 am–3 pm\, and running through the beginning of March.  \n\n\n\nTickets are now available online at whiteelephantsale.org. \n\n\n\nFor the health and safety of our volunteer workers and our patrons\, we must impose the following restrictions:  \n\n\n\n\nNo children under 12 (including infants in front carriers) will be allowed. \n\n\n\nOnly service animals are permitted in the warehouse. Join us for this beloved Bay Area tradition and the largest rummage sale in Northern California.  \n\n\n\nBrowse without the crowds on select days between January 29 and February 21\, between 10 am and 2 pm. New merchandise will be added throughout the sale. Reserve your spot for $7 per day. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOpen Warehouse Days\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThursday\, January 29–Sunday\, February 1Wednesday\, February 4–Saturday\, February 7Wednesday\, February 11- Saturday. February 14Monday (Presidents Day)\, February 16Thursday\, February 19–Saturday\, February 21 \n\n\n\nShoppers with reservations will be admitted first. Walk-ins will be allowed to pay at the door as space permits\, starting at 11 am each day.  \n\n\n\nTickets are available online at whiteelephantsale.org. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nImportant Info\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPay-at-the-door entry permitted after 11 am on Open Warehouse Days: As space allows\, on each Open Warehouse Day walk-in shoppers who have not pre-purchased tickets will be admitted inside starting at 11 am with the purchase of a $7 admission ticket.  \n\n\n\nFree admission for teachers: Current California pre-k to 12 teachers will be given free admission starting at 11 am.  A photo ID and proof of current status of employment will be required at entry. \n\n\n\nFree shopping hours available after 1 pm on Open Warehouse Days: As space allows\, shoppers will be welcome to enter the warehouse on Open Warehouse Days at no charge to shop until we close at 2 pm. \n\n\n\nFree shuttles from Fruitvale BART station: On all weekend Sale days\, and on Monday\, February 16 (Presidents’ Day)\, shoppers can take a shuttle to and from BART instead of searching for parking\, which is limited.\n\n\n\n\nFor the health and safety of our volunteer workers and our patrons\, we must impose the following restrictions:  \n\n\n\n\nNo children under 12 (including infants in front carriers) will be allowed. \n\n\n\nOnly service animals are permitted in the warehouse. Gallery Chats put a twist on the traditional museum tour by encouraging meaningful conversations and fresh interpretations to connect with the artwork\, artifacts\, and stories in our galleries. \n\n\n\nGallery Chats take place in our Special Exhibitions every Saturday from 1 to 3 pm and are included with Museum and Special Exhibition admission. No reservation necessary. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGET MUSEUM ADMISSION TICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOMCA Members have access to special Member Tours every second Saturday of the month from noon to 1 pm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAccessibility\n\n\n\nOakland Museum of California (OMCA) is committed to providing programs that are accessible\, welcoming\, and inclusive of our community.
