OMCA Artist Talk | The Apocalyptic Sublime with David Maisel

Friday, November 22, 2013, 7–8:30 pm
Friday, November 22, 2013 - 7:00pm

Join OMCA for a captivating conversation between artist David Maisel and OMCA Senior Curator of Art René de Guzman. OMCA recently acquired two of Maisel’s photographs, Lake Project 3 and Oblivion 15n, with funds from the Oakland Museum Women's Board. Visitors are encouraged to visit the Gallery of California Art before the talk to view the recently-installed works.

Maisel's large-scale photographs portray ecologically ravaged sites, sublime work that draws viewers’ eyes to places they'd rather turn away from. The New York Times described Maisel's works as "eye opening" in how they "tell tales the way scars tell stories of the body."

Maisel’s recently published book Black Maps: American Landscape and the Apocalypic Sublime will be available at the OMCA Store.

Included with Museum Admission. Free to OMCA Members.

This talk takes place during Friday Nights @ OMCA, the Museum's late-night weekly event featuring Off the Grid food trucks, live music, dancing, and more.
