El Museo de Oakland de California anuncia eventos y programas para marzo y abril de 2020
(OAKLAND, CA) 24 de febrero de 2020-El Museo de Oakland de California (OMCA) anuncia los próximos eventos y programas especiales en marzo y abril. La mayor y mejor venta de artículos de segunda mano del norte de California, la 61ª venta anual de Elefantes Blancos, vuelve el fin de semana del sábado y el domingo, 7 y 8 de marzo. Toda la recaudación de la venta, organizada por la Junta de Mujeres del Museo de Oakland, ayuda a financiar la programación, las exposiciones y los eventos del OMCA.

OMCA’s year of 50th anniversary programming continues on Sábado, Marzo 21 with OMCA at 50 Community Conversations: Food and Well-Being. Hear from prominent Oakland and Bay Area chefs as they explore where our food comes from, the practice of making a meal and what it means to gather and share food together.

Join OMCA for the 8th season of Oakland-favorite Viernes Nights at OMCA, including Off the Grid food trucks, DJs, music, family programs, late-night gallery access, and other activities for the community every Viernes night. Viernes Nights will continue throughout OMCA’s campus renovations, with performances and activities moving to Oak Street Plaza. White Elephant Sale

Serious shoppers take note: the biggest and best rummage sale in Northern California returns for one grand weekend with free admission for all. Held in a 96,000-square-foot warehouse at 333 Lancaster Street, near the Oakland Estuary, the sale offers something for everyone including clothing, jewelry, books, tools, art, sports equipment, furniture, household items, and more. Organized and presented by the Oakland Museum Women’s Board, all sale proceeds benefit the Oakland Museum of California.
Free admission and free shuttle to and from the Fruitvale BART station. Please note that parking is extremely limited in the area.
OMCA @ 50 Community Conversations: Food and Well-Being

In Conversation: Mapping Untold Stories

As part of OMCA’s new exhibition, You Are Here: California Stories on the Map, consider the ways in which invisible patterns and powers are made real on maps in this special program. How do maps help tell under-told stories? How does collecting data enable us to understand the histories of oppression and imbalance of power? What do maps help reveal for future generations?
Join the conversation with Liam O’Donoghue, host and producer of acclaimed podcast East Bay Yesterday, Jenny Odell, multi-disciplinary artist and author of How to Do Nothing: Resisting the Attention Economy, Alexis Madrigal, journalist and staff writer at The Atlantic, and Dr. Brandi Thompson Summers, assistant professor of Geography and Global Metropolitan Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. The program will be moderated by You Are Here guest curator, Sarah Seiter.

ABOUT THE OAKLAND MUSEUM WOMEN’S BOARD
The sole purpose of the Oakland Museum Women’s Board (OMWB), a dedicated group with 114 year-round members, has been to raise money to support the Oakland Museum of California acquisitions, exhibitions, educational programs, capital improvements, and more. Since 1959, the OMWB has contributed over $22 million to the Museum. With the help of a thousand dedicated volunteers, they work year-round to organize and present the White Elephant Sale held annually during the first weekend in Marzo which attracts shoppers from the Bay Area and beyond.

VISITOR INFORMATION
The Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) is at 1000 Oak Street, at 10th Street, in Oakland. Museum admission is $16 general; $11 seniors and students with valid ID, $7 youth ages 9 to 17, and free for Members and children 8 and under. There is a $5 charge in addition to general admission pricing for special exhibitions. OMCA offers onsite underground parking and is conveniently located one block from the Lake Merritt BART station, on the corner of 10th Street and Oak Street.
