SUMMARY:Entering the Dreamspace: A virtual study group for Black feminist conspiracy practices for liberation
DESCRIPTION:First Sundays\n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nImportant update 1/5/23: With storm conditions and uncertainty around potential museum closures this weekend\, this program will pivot to take place on Zoom. Please join the program on Sunday\, January 8 at 1pm via Zoom. \n\n\n\nTickets: $1 – $30 – Sliding Scale \n\n\n\nJoin co-conveners of the Church of Black Feminist Thought\, Ra Malika Imhotep and Miyuki Baker\, for an interactive study group session via Zoom. \n\n\n\nInspired by the work of contemporary and historical figures on display in OMCA’s Hella Feminist exhibition and catalyzed by this moment of multiple pandemics\, climate crisis\, racial capitalism\, gendered violence\, and political negligence\, study group participants will set out to explore what it means to “breathe together” while working towards collective liberation. \n\n\n\nNotes from Co-Conveners: \n\n\n\n\nEveryone is welcome\, however the Church of Black Feminist Thought would like to prioritize participants who self-identify as Black to attend.\n\n\n\n\nTaking the long tradition of transnational Black feminist organizing our guide\, this workshop will engage several practices and theories of organizing and collaborating across difference. Anchor texts and practices will be pulled from works of Alexis Pauline Gumbs\, June Jordan\, Aurora Vergara Figueroa and Katherine Arboleda Hurtado\, and others. \n\n\n\nOne of the goals of this workshop is to emphasize that this practice of Black feminist study is about engaging with the work of Black feminist thinkers in ways that move beyond just reading and writing.  Participants are not required to read or print anything in advance. That said:  \n\n\n\n\nMaterials by the thinkers to be studied and a link to materials will be shared with registered attendees before the program.\n\n\n\nPlease have a notebook/journal and writing utensils.\n\n\n\nParticipants are invited to adorn themselves for the Dreamspace! What do your wildest dreams look like? \n\n\n\n\n\nGET TICKETS\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Church of Black Feminist Thought\n\n\n\nThe Church of Black Feminist Thought is an embodied spiritual-political education project co-convened by Ra Malika Imhotep & Miyuki Baker in an effort to share citations in more accessible ways and to surface all the hidden labor done by black feminist artists\, scholars\, and writers.  While much of our academic work is suspended in long publishing timelines and hard-to-decipher language\, we believe that bringing the words of black feminist thinkers into conversation in physical (or digital) space\, then translating our collective ruminations into visual storytelling and illustration will nourish and support many.  We are most excited about this project because it lives at the intersection of gender\, race\, critical theory and visual art.  \n\n\n\nAccessibility \n\n\n\nThe Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) is committed to providing programs that are accessible\, welcoming\, and inclusive of our community. Assistive listening devices and wheelchairs are available for checkout on a first come\, first served basis at the Ticketing Desk. To request other accommodations\, like American Sign Language (ASL)\, Cantonese\, Spanish or another language interpreter\, please email visitor@museumca.org at least three weeks before the event. \n\n\n\n\nReturn to Events
