Canceled - OMCA @ 50 Community Conversations: Food and Well-Being

As part of our 50th Anniversary, we are celebrating with five Community Conversations, bringing together community leaders, thinkers, artists, and activists to lead us in a series of conversations about issues of importance to us here in Oakland and the Bay Area. 

Join us for a special one-day program highlighting the work of Oakland and Bay Area chefs and community members as they explore the connection between food and well being. Food not only provides nourishment for our bodies—it also impacts our emotional and social health.This panel will feature chef Tanya Holland, chef Preeti Mistry, writer and restaurant critic Luke Tsai, and others.

Tanya Holland
Known for her inventive take on modern soul food, as well as comfort classics, Tanya Holland is the executive chef/owner of Brown Sugar Kitchen. She is also the author of the Brown Sugar Kitchen Cookbook and New Soul Cooking; was the host and soul food expert on the television series Melting Pot; and competed on the fifteenth season of Top Chef. Holland appeared as a special guest on countless national television shows including The Talk, Today Show, Vh1′s Soul Cities, Sarah Moulton’s Cooking Live, Ready, Set, Cook! and The Wayne Brady Show, in addition to local San Francisco shows such as Check, Please!, View from the Bay and Eye on the Bay. Holland was also a featured judge on My Momma Throws Down, airing on the cable network TV One as well as The Great American Chef’s Tour on PBS. OMCA is pleased to welcome Town Fare by Tanya Holland, a new café concept, later this summer. 

 

Preeti Mistry
Preeti Mistry is a James Beard Foundation nominated chef and co-author of The Juhu Beach Club Cookbook. Preeti has worked in London and the Bay Area, having held Executive Chef roles at the de Young Museum, the Legion of Honor in San Francisco, and Google HQ in Mountain View. Her cooking was featured on CNN's Parts Unknown with Anthony Bourdain and she was a contestant on Top Chef Season 6.

 

 

 

Luke Tsai
Luke Tsai is a Bay Area food writer and the editor of Eater SF. Previously, he edited the food section at San Francisco magazine and, before that, he was the East Bay Express restaurant critic. When he isn't writing and editing, you'll find him eating most everything he can get his hands on.
