Celebrate Africa Day at Friday Nights at OMCA! Enjoy a line-up of special activities celebrating a multitude of African cultures and communities with festive dance demonstrations, live music, a hair braiding workshop, storytelling, and more. 

Friday Nights at OMCA is one of Oakland's favorite things to do. Join us for late-night gallery hours, local food truck cuisine, music, dance, and children’s art activities every Friday night.

Late Night Gallery Hours

5–10 pm: Galleries Open Late
Explore the Museum’s 110,000 square feet of gallery space until 10 pm, including hands-on exhibitions with interactive activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Join us for special late-night screenings of rare films exploring untold stories of California’s LGBTQ+ communities, in conjunction with special exhibition Queer California: Untold StoriesCheck the schedule here for tonight’s showtimes and film descriptions.

Included with Museum special exhibition admission. There is an additional $5 charge for special exhibition Queer California: Untold Stories

7:30–7:45 pm: Snack-Sized Docent Tour
Visit the Ticketing Desk on Level 2 to discover the meeting location.
Join a lively fifteen-minute mini-tour led by a talented OMCA Docent with a surprise theme each time. Included with Museum admission.

Celebrate Spring with your own mini garden! Decorate paper cups and fill with soil and seeds to take home and watch your garden grow. Inspired by Take Root: Oakland Grows Food, on view in the Gallery of California Natural Sciences.

5:30–7:30 pm: Storytelling
Join us for storytelling in the Gardens with Dzokerayi Mu.

5:30–7:30 pm: Games
Enjoy OMCA's Gardens with playground games and activities by Philip Agyapong and Denise Amos.


Local Food and Drink

5–10 pm: Off the Grid Food Trucks
10th Street
Enjoy a rotating lineup of local gourmet food trucks from Off the Grid.

5–9:30 pm: Blue Oak Beer Garden
Level 1
Enjoy beer and wine specials from local makers.

Kick back and relax with seating available on 10th Street, the 10th Street Amphitheater, Oak Street Plaza, the OMCA Gardens or café patio.

OMCA is located one block from the Lake Merritt BART Station. Event parking is available at the Museum for a $7 flat fee after 5 pm. Museum garage closes at 11 pm.

Food and drink are not allowed inside the galleries unless otherwise designated.
