In honor of the one-year anniversary of the Ghost Ship fire, we're joining in community at the Oakland Museum of California to pay tribute to those whose lives were lost with a moment of silence at 6:30 pm followed by an invitation to gather at the Ghost Ship altar inside Metamorphosis & Migration: Days of the Dead. Learn more

Friday Nights @ OMCA is one of Oakland's favorite things to do and the only after-hours museum night paired with Off the Grid food trucks, bringing you the best of local cuisine along with music, dance, and the whole Museum open late. Enjoy half-price admission, hands-on activities for kids, and a lineup of live music and dance from local performers that changes weekly. Bring friends and family for a taste of local music, food, and culture at the Oakland Museum of California every Friday Night!

Late Night Gallery Hours

5–9 pm: Galleries Open Late
Admission is half-off for adults with an additional $4 charge for special exhibitions. Ages 18 and under are always free on Friday Nights @ OMCA.

6:30: In Memoriam — Ghost Ship
10th Street Amphitheater
Join a moment of silence led by curator Evelyn Orantes and artists Chris Treggiari and Peter Foucault for all who would like to join, followed by an invitation to visit Metamorphosis and Migration: Days of the Dead, which includes an altar created by Chris and Peter in memory of victims of the Ghost Ship fire and the 2017 West Oakland fire (admission required to enter gallery). 

7:30–7:45 pm: Snack-Sized Docent Tour
Visit Ticketing Desk on Level 2 to discover meeting location
A fifteen-minute mini-tour led by a talented OMCA Docent with a surprise theme each time. Included with Museum admission.

Ethiopian fusion dance showcase with Tsedi.

7:15–9 pm: Music — Meklit
10th Street Amphitheater
Ethio-jazz from Meklit, an Ethio-American singer, composer, and TED Senior Fellow based in Oakland, CA. Her TED Talk, The Unexpected Beauty of Everyday Sounds, has been watched by more than 1.2 million people. She has received musical commissions from Lincoln Center and the MAP Fund and has toured extensively across the US, UK, and East Africa.

A new way to do Friday Nights @ OMCA! Enjoy libations in the comfy lounge area inside the immersive exhibition Nature’s Gift: Humans, Friends & the Unknown. Access included with special exhibition admission.

5–9 pm: Blue Oak Beer Garden
Blue Oak Beer Garden (near Koi Pond)
Enjoy beer and wine specials from local makers.

Kick back and relax with seating available on 10th Street (no alcoholic beverages allowed), the 10th Street Amphitheater, Oak Street Plaza, or café patio. To protect the Museum collections, food and drink are not allowed inside the galleries unless otherwise designated. Please note the OMCA Gardens are closed during Friday Nights @ OMCA through March 2018.

OMCA is located one block from the Lake Merritt BART Station. Event parking is available at the Museum for a $7 flat fee after 5 pm. Museum garage closes at 10:30 pm.
