Friday, October 17, 2014, 7–7:30 pm
Friday, October 17, 2014 - 7:00pm

Join Oakland-based author Novella Carpenter for a brief talk inspired by the Gallery of California Natural Sciences. Carpenter’s 2009 memoir Farm City: The Education of an Urban Farmer describes her extensive garden in Ghost Town, a neighborhood about a mile from downtown Oakland. Farm City was named a top book of 2009 by reviewers. With a background in English and biology, and a journalism degree from UC Berkeley where she studied with Michael Pollan, Carpenter’s journalistic work and publications, including The Essential Urban Farmer (2011) reflect her interests in farming, food, the environment, and culture.

After the talk, Novella will remain in the Gallery to sign copies of her newest book Gone Feral: Tracking My Dad Through the Wild.

Included with Museum admission. Admission for Members is always free.
