David Maisel is a photographer based in the Bay Area. His work focuses on subjects that speak both to aesthetics and ethics, such as landscapes profoundly affected by industry and copper canisters that contain the cremated remains of psychiatric hospital patients. His photographs have been exhibited internationally, and are included in many public collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Victoria & Albert Museum, London; Brooklyn Museum of Art; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and others. He earned his MFA from California College of the Arts and is currently a trustee of the Headlands Center for the Arts.
