OFF-SITE EXHIBITIONS
Professional Services is a department of the Oakland Museum of California dedicated to producing exhibitions, commissioning public art works, and managing off-site projects on behalf of the Museum.
Our most visible program is located at Oakland International Airport, and features four to six public exhibitions per year that focus on California. Professional Services provides all of the expertise required—from concept development through onsite installation—in a turnkey fashion. One of the projects, a 120-foot art glass window by renowned artist Hung Liu, was recognized in the Americans for the Arts Public Art Annual Review, a high honor in the public art field.
Professional Services also manages exhibitions in several corporate locations in downtown Oakland. We specialize in large-scale sculpture installations of contemporary artwork. Each year we produce seven exhibitions that feature emerging and established local artists. To date, we have shown more than 75 California artists, greatly expanding on the museum’s ability to show ongoing contemporary artworks and support the large number of artists living and working in our community.
Currently, Professional Services is managing the inaugural public art commissioning process for the Lafayette Library and Learning Center in Lafayette, that will feature exhibitions for two locations at the library. The project is scheduled for completion in the Fall of 2009.
