White Elephant Sale Returns to Bay Area March 5 & 6, 2016, Preview Sale Jan. 31

(OAKLAND, CA)—Now in its 57th year, the White Elephant Sale, Northern California’s biggest and best rummage sale, returns to Oakland on March 5 and 6, 2016. The Preview Sale, where shoppers have first access to sale items for purchase, will take place on Sunday, January 31. Proceeds from the Sale, which is organized and presented by the Oakland Museum Women’s Board benefit the Oakland Museum of California, with last year’s Sale raising a record-breaking $2.15 million.

Organized and presented by the Oakland Museum Women’s Board to benefit the Oakland Museum of California (OMCA), the renowned White Elephant Sale (WES) features 19 departments offering a wide range of quality used goods, including furniture, artwork, household items, china, sporting goods, fine jewelry, Asian collectibles, tools, music, books, vintage and contemporary clothing for men, women, and children, and more. The annual sale takes place in a 96,000 square-foot warehouse located at 333 Lancaster Street on the Oakland Estuary, and is made possible by donations from the public.

The 2016 White Elephant Sale promises to offer something for everyone as the most memorable second-hand shopping experience in the West.  Sale hours are 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, March 5 and Sunday, March 6 and admission is free.

Enthusiastic shoppers can get early access to the White Elephant Sale’s wide array of goods during the Preview Sale on Sunday, January 31, 2016, from 10 am to 4 pm. Preview Sale tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Tickets can be purchased in advance starting December 1, 2015 in one of three ways: in person at the OMCA Store, online through the OMCA Store website, or by mail-in order form, found at WhiteElephantSale.org. Children under 12 are admitted free to the Preview Sale but must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Shoppers are advised to arrive early and wear comfortable shoes. A complimentary shuttle service from the Fruitvale BART to the WES warehouse will be provided for the January 31 Preview Sale and on the March 5 and 6 White Elephant Sale days.

ABOUT THE OAKLAND MUSEUM WOMEN’S BOARD
The sole purpose of the Oakland Museum Women’s Board (OMWB), a dedicated group with 114 year-round members, has been to raise money to support the Oakland Museum of California acquisitions, exhibitions, educational programs, capital improvements, and more. Since 1959, the OMWB has contributed over $22 million to the Museum. With the help of a thousand dedicated volunteers, they work year round to organize and present the White Elephant Sale held annually during the first weekend in March which attracts shoppers from the Bay Area and beyond.
