RELEASE 10TH & OAK STREETS CONTACT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Oakland’s uber-recycling event, the White
Elephant Sale, returns the weekend of March 1 and March 2, 2008, from 10 to
4 both days. The annual Sale is produced by the ever-green Oakland Museum Women’s Board to benefit the Oakland Museum of California, a landmark venue dedicated to the art, history, and natural sciences of California. The Sale is held at the White Elephant Sale warehouse, 333 Lancaster St., just off the 880 Freeway/Fruitvale exit, near the Oakland Estuary. Street parking is scarce: go green and take BART
The Oakland Museum Women’s Board, about 100 intrepid women, has raised more than $13 million since 1955 to support the museum’s acquisitions, exhibitions, education programs, and capital improvements. Since 2002 the Sale has netted more than $1 million annually. Women’s Board members sort and price donations months in advance: art, books, vintage and contemporary clothing, jewelry, household goods, tools, furniture, linens, sporting equipment, toys, luggage, appliances, and more. Hundreds of volunteers help during the Sale. Tickets for the White Elephant Preview Sale, Sunday, January 27, 10–4 p.m., are available in advance ($12.50) at the Oakland Museum of California or @ WES, P.O. Box 11605, Oakland, CA 94611 by January 21, and at the door ($15). Children under 12 are free when accompanied by an adult. No strollers, shopping carts or backpacks! Call 510/839-5919 to make a donation (tax deductible) or to arrange a pickup. Visit WhiteElephantSale.org for details and directions. * * * |
