Oakland Museum of California Adds New and Classic Family Programs for April, May, and June

(OAKLAND, CA) March 31, 2014—The Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) introduces new family-friendly activities for the young and curious in April, May, and June 2014. The popular evening series Friday Nights @ OMCA continues, featuring delicious food trucks, live music, and family hands-on activities including gold-rush themed games and  half-off admission for adults, and free admission for ages 18 and under! New exhibitions SuperAwesome and Vinyl provide the inspiration for drop-in family programs during Friday Nights @ OMCA and a new program on April 27 with flipbook-making and a hands-on DJ turntable workshop. May signals the return of annual favorite all-ages hands-on Gold Panning. OMCA always offers great deals for families, with admission for youth ages 9 to 17 at $6, ages 8 and under always free, and a free day every first Sunday of the month! Friday Nights @ OMCA 
Fridays in April, 2014, 5–9 pm
Join OMCA and Off the Grid for family-friendly fun and festivities! Enjoy DJs, live bands, dancing, and more. Play 49’er in the family-friendly drop-in activity ‘The Game of Gold’ every Friday from 5 to 8 pm. The last Friday of the month, April 25, also features story time with Oakland Public Library from 6 to 6:30 pm. Gallery admission is half-off for adults; free for ages 18 and under!

Free First Sunday
Sunday, April 6, 11 am–5 pm
Enjoy films on the wonders of the Bay Area with Bay Motion: Capturing San Francisco Bay on Film and A Cinematic Study of Fog in San Francisco. Pick up a treat in the OMCA Store, or enjoy a lunch or snack in Blue Oak café. Explore all the galleries of the Museum—for free!

Drop-in Workshops: Flipbooks & Turntabling
Sunday, April 27, 12–3 pm
Come explore with an afternoon of fun, hands-on workshops inspired by OMCA spring exhibitions SuperAwesome and Vinyl. Make your own flipbooks and learn basic DJ techniques for beat making and scratching with DJ Elmo.

Friday Nights @ OMCA 
Fridays in May, 2014, 5–9 pm
Get your fill of family-friendly fun and festivities with OMCA & Off the Grid! Enjoy DJs, live bands, dancing, food trucks, and more. Make your own comic inspired by exhibition SuperAwesome, at the family-friendly drop-in activity every Friday from 5 to 8 pm. The last Friday of the month, May 30, also features story time with Oakland Public Library from 6 to 6:30 pm. Gallery admission is half-off for adults; free for ages 18 and under!

Sunday, May 4, 11 am–5 pm
Enjoy a free day at OMCA and visit newly-opened exhibitions SuperAwesome: Art and Giant Robot, and Vinyl: The Sound and Culture of Records. Enjoy brunch in the café, a picnic in the gardens or spend your day in the Galleries, with California art, history, and natural science.
