2013 White Elephant Sale Raises $1.8 Million

(OAKLAND, CA)—The Bay Area’s biggest and best rummage sale raised $1.8 million for the second consecutive year at the 54th annual White Elephant Sale held on March 2 and 3, 2013. Organized and presented by the Oakland Museum Women’s Board, proceeds benefit the Oakland Museum of California (OMCA).

“To our tireless volunteers, generous donors and enthusiastic shoppers, we say thank you,” said Sheri Guthrie, President of the Oakland Museum Women’s Board. “Our White Elephant Sale and the support it allows us to provide to the Oakland Museum of California would not be possible without all of you. With grateful appreciation, we congratulate everyone involved on a job well done.”

“Our sincerest thanks to all the donors, shoppers, volunteers and of course the Women’s Board for making this year’s White Elephant Sale another fantastic success,” said Oakland Museum of California Director and CEO Lori Fogarty. “The proceeds from the White Elephant Sale every year benefit the Museum in a vast number of ways, including supporting our educational programs, community activities, and a wide range of exhibitions. Without the support of the Women’s Board and the Sale, OMCA could not do all the work we do for the public. In fact, the Sale itself exemplifies the Museum’s mission to connect communities to the cultural and environmental heritage of California—it brings diverse groups of people together, celebrates civic engagement, and supports sustainability by encouraging recycling and re-use through donations. We are honored and humbled by this amazing volunteer fundraising effort.”
