In a bustling
neighborhood of Oakland where small cafes, charming shops, and California-style
bungalows happily mingle, there stands a highly respected professional
art schoolthe California College of Arts and Crafts (CCAC).
Founded soon after the 1906 earthquake and fire, the school is tucked
away on what was once an elegant Victorian estate but now is an
expanded modern facility with a second campus in San Francisco.
From its modest beginnings with a handful of students, CCAC now
boasts a student body of over 1,200 aspiring artists, designers,
crafts people and art educators who are instructed by a nationally
and internationally respected faculty.
Since its establishment
almost 95 years ago, the college has graduated a distinguished and
wide range of artists, many of whom actively continue to work and
exhibit. Eight alumniDennis Begg, Jamie Brunson, Jane B. Grimm,
Carole Jeung, Alexis Nichandros Moyer, Andrew J. Phares, Jan Watten,
and Crissy Welzenare featured in this presentation. No specific
theme is intended to tie this exhibition together; rather, this
is a celebration of art and the creative process. In very personalized
ways, each artist challenges us to stop, look and think (even laugh),
and helps open new doors of awareness that we might not have approached
before.
