Situated along the California coast,
Aņo Nuevo State Park is home to many elephant seals that
use the beaches to give birth, nurse their young, breed,
molt and rest.
We learned a lot about the different animals,
including elephant seals from our guides.
You can tell the difference between
males and females by looking at their noses and their size difference.
The males have long drooping noses and are much larger than the females.
This male is challenging another
male to fight by raising his head up and making a really
loud, funny sound, sort of like a motorcycle being revved up.
Elephant seal pups nurse for only one
month. Here are two weaners, pups that have finished nursing,
that are resting and enjoying the mood. Their mothers leave
them on the beach where they learn to swim on their own.
