Playing with Fire: The Art of Making Glass

October 26, 2012–March 24, 2013

This fall marks the 50th anniversary of the studio art-glass movement in the United States. In celebration of this milestone, this exhibit at the Oakland International Airport (OAK) explores the techniques and tools used by today’s studio glass artists.

Featured in this exhibit are works by artists representing three prominent Bay Area studio glass art centers: The Crucible, Studio One Art Center, and Bay Area Glass Institute (BAGI). Whether created by glass blowing, flame work, or kiln work, the pieces on view showcase the unique characteristics of each technique. Also on view are a variety of glass blowing tools.
