Summer of Science: Bugging Out with Eddie Dunbar and the Insect Sciences Museum

Sunday, August 4, 2013, 1–3pm
Sunday, August 4, 2013 - 1:00pm

“The same impulse that makes us want to squash a bug can also inspire us to pull out our magnifying glass and a field guide,” says Eddie Dunbar, Bay Area entomologist and founder of The Insect Sciences Museum of California (ISMC). Meet Eddie and learn how to help monitor and protect our six-legged friends with Opertation: Idenfication, an exploration of pinned insect specimens and the tools entomologist use to study them. Then, join Eddie in an Insect Safari in the Garden at 2 pm to learn how to use butterfly nets and insect collection tools, such as loupes, forceps, and vials, to catch and release live specimens. The ISMC is dedicated to promoting insect literacy and examining the critical role insects play in our ecosystem.

Included with Museum admission. Meet in the Oakland Section of the Gallery of California Natural Sciences.
