Friday, April 26, 2013 - 7:00pm

Join Hung Liu for an informal talk and in-gallery tour as she reflects on work featured in the exhibition Summoning Ghosts: The Art of Hung Liu. The event begins in the James Moore Theater on Level 1 with a short presentation on techniques, processes, and ideas Liu uses in creating her work. After a brief Q&A, visitors will have the option to stay for a screening of the 1949 film Daughters of China by Zifeng Ling and Qiang Zhai, that inspired key artworks in the exhibition. This rare, early propaganda film tells the story Chinese female soldiers during the second Sino-Japanese War. The screening will present a 30 minute excerpt of the final culminating dramatic scenes of sacrifice in the face of defeat. Audience members may also choose to join Hung in the gallery to visit the works commented upon in her talk.

Film includes subtitles in English. This program is co-curated by students from the California College of Art’s Graduate Program in Curatorial Practice. Included with Museum admission. Free to OMCA Members. Part of Friday Nights @ OMCA.
