Art Guild Day Trip | Explore Art in Many Forms

Tuesday, January 7, 2014, 8:30 am–4:30 pm
Tuesday, January 7, 2014 - 8:30am

Join us as the OMCA Art Guild visits several sites of artistic interest around the Bay Area, accompanied by Phil Linhares, former OMCA Chief Curator of Art whose advice and expertise has been appreciated by the Art Guild for many years. Our first stop is the Bernard Maybeck home of Foster Goldstrom, who will tell us about the history of this architectural treasure. We will also view Goldstrom’s vast collection of modern art, one of the finest private collections in the Bay Area.

We will visit the Artworks Foundry, one of the nation’s leading foundries. Artworks has served many premier sculptors including Asawa, DeStaebler, Neri, and Voulkos. We will view the work of these masters in Artworks gallery.

Next, we’ll visit the Berkeley studio of Lucy Puls, a professor of art at UC Davis and a mixed-media artist. Puls will discuss her current, exciting project, focusing on the interiors of foreclosed, unoccupied homes now in decay and near destruction.

We end our day at The Crucible, a major Bay Area industrial arts education facility, hosted by glass artist Mary White, co-head of The Crucible Glass Department.
