Screening List
1.
Pas de ce Monde (Not of this World) –
Director: CaroLuna– 4
min. USA
A beautiful visual odyssey of “dancing’ jellies” set
to opera music sung by the film’s multi-talented director.
2. Ride
of the Mergansers – Director: Steve Furman - 11 min.
USA
The Hooded Merganser is a rare and reclusive duck found only in
North America. Every spring, in the Great Lakes region, the wary
hen lays
and incubates her eggs in a nest high in the trees. Just 24 hours
after hatching, the tiny ducklings must make the perilous leap
to the ground below to begin life in the wild. This age-old rite
is
rarely observed by humans; Ride of the Mergansers brings the hidden
drama to the screen. Filmed entirely in northern Minnesota, this
award-winning film is a blend of natural history, humor, and suspense.
You'll leave with a newfound appreciation of the phrase “leap
of faith.”
3. The
God - Director: Konstantin Bronzit – 4 min. Russia
A wonderful computer generated animation of the humorous struggle
between a statue of Shiva and a house fly. Conclusion: Even a
Hindu god might have to reincarnate to get rid of this pesky
bug.
4. Peregrine
Dreams – Director: Greg Bernstein - 10 min. USA
In 1997 members of Project Bandaloop ascended the massive granite
face of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. Over the course
of six days and five nights they created a vertical dance that
celebrated
the return of the peregrine falcon from near extinction. This
amazing film documents the team’s ascent and death-defying
dance. It also articulates the exceptional nature of the peregrine
falcon,
the environmental issues that led to its near extinction and
the work of the Predatory Bird Research Group of Santa Cruz.
5. Rollerboy – Director:
Rob Welkner - 7 min. USA
An inspiring comedy about a street hockey Superhero who does
battle with those who would litter.
6. Flip
Flotsam – Director: Journeyman Pictures - 20 min. Africa
Ever wondered what happens to your footwear after you’re finished
with it? This award-winning and startlingly original documentary
traces the fantastic journey of Africa’s most popular
shoes: the flip-flop. Easily bought, quickly discarded,
the flip-flop stands
as a symbol of the summer holiday for millions of westerners.
But in its African homeland, it undergoes a series of versatile
transformations.
Filmed over a two year period, this uplifting film takes
an ingenious look at the lifecycle of the flip-flop.
7. Birdbeat – Director: Geoff Adams - 4 min. USA
A jazzy interpretation of backyard birds. Cool, man.
8. Winnemem
War Dance at Shasta Dam – Director: Christopher
McLeod - 7 min. USA
A proposal to raise the height of Shasta Dam near Redding
threatens to flood Winnemem Wintu sacred sites on the
McCloud River.
In September, 2004, the Winnemem responded with a four-day
war dance
to spiritually
unite the people in their struggle for sovereignty
and religious freedom, and their efforts to protect
the water,
salmon and
ceremonial sites. This important documentary tells
the tale.
9. Catfish
Blues – Director
Paul Morstad - 3 min. Canada
A poetic animation about a catfish with the blues
who goes for a walk around the block.
10. Mantlepiece – Director: Geoffry Siskind - 20 min. Canada
This thought-provoking film looks at the people hunt,
kill and collect animals as trophies. It peers
into a world
rarely seen
and a process
largely misunderstood. Who is the modern hunter?
Are taxidermists creepy animal embalmers, or master
artists?
It’s a little bit
weird, somewhat gory, quite quirky, and a whole
new way of looking at caribou migration.
11. Spirits
of the Forest – Director: Taylor Lockwood – 3.5
min. USA
Witness an amazing, beautifully photographed
collection of mushrooms set to baroque music.
12. Diablo – Director: Dave Giordano - 7 min. USA
Edu-taining comedy about a wisecracking puppet
in the backcountry of Alaska.
13. Rotation – Director: Erin Hudson - 3 min. USA
Black and white documentary about a traditional
yet progressive farming family.
14. Natural
Transitions – Director: Nick Kalish – 2 min.

to both urban and natural landscapes.
