The Dark Zone
It does not take long to reach the dark zone in most caves. Go through one narrow passage or down a hole and you'll find yourself in total darkness. This is where the specialists live. Caves are the only habitat where you will find most of these invertebrates. They never leave the cave, spending their entire lives in the dark.

Animals that spend their entire lives in the Dark Zone are called troglobites. They have very small or no eyes, little or no color, are small and have long feelers.
