Bats Roost in Trees

Many California bats make their homes in trees, roosting under leaves and branches, behind bark and in hollow trees. Bat forest habitat is being threatened due to logging and removal of old hollow trees.

Why Hang Upside Down?
Bats hang upside down, holding on with their toes. Bat biologists believe it's easier for them to take off in flight from this position.  It's safer hanging --  most predators can't reach bats in their roosts.
