Sep 16, 2011 | 7:00 pm

Join filmmaker Tom Ropelewski and members of the Dixon/Lange family at the Oakland Museum of California for a special screening of Child of Giants: My Journey with Maynard Dixon and Dorothea Lange. A glimpse into the emotional story of one of Maynard Dixon and Dorothea Lange's sons who had to come to terms with being placed in foster homes while his parents followed their artistic callings, the film shows the ultimate toll that art had on this family's life.

Ropelewski, whose film credits include Look Who's Talking Now and The Next Big Thing, is married to screenwriter Leslie Dixon (Mrs. Doubtfire and Hairspray), a granddaughter of Maynard Dixon and Dorothea Lange. The Oakland Museum of California houses Lange's personal archive, a gift from the artist that includes 25,000 negatives, 6,000 vintage prints, field notes, and personal memorabilia

The film screening is included with Museum admission. Free to OMCA members. Presented in partnership with KQED.

OMCA is open Fridays until 9 p.m.
