At OMCA, we like a good party. Friday Nights @ OMCA is where it’s at, whether you’re coming to see a special exhibition for half-price, getting down on the dance floor, or enjoying a drink at the bar and delicious eats from Off the Grid. We’ve got an amazing lineup for you every week this month, so make sure to stop by for these special installments of #OMCAFridays.

Five years of CAAMFest + OMCA
Friday, March 17, 5–9 pm
The annual collaboration between the Bay Area’s Asian American film festival and the Oakland Museum of California is back. Join us for the premiere of BLASIAN NARRATIVES, a film project that highlights the voices of young people with Black and Asian heritage. Enjoy live music and spoken word performances by some of the cast members, then see the film in the James Moore Theater at 7 pm. CAAMFest is celebrating their 35th year with incredible documentaries, music, and narrative film collaborations around the Bay, so don’t miss out on this fantastic event.

Welcoming our neighbors for Persian New Year
Friday, March 24, 5–9 pm
This spring, OMCA invites a local partner, the Islamic Cultural Center of Northern California, to showcase the traditions of Nowruz, or Persian New Year. Observed during the spring equinox, Nowruz falls on March 21 in 2017. Translated directly as “new day,” the festival marks the beginning of spring and the natural world beginning to bloom. A traditional New Year’s spread, or Haft-Seen, will be on display, and master Persian musicians playing the Tombak and dancing will lead the live performances at Friday Nights on March 24.

Kicking it with SoleSpace and Sneakerheads
Friday, March 31, 6:30–9 pm
Fridays in March are culminating in this Sneakerhead Social marking the final weekend of wildly popular exhibition Out of the Box: The Rise of Sneaker Culture. Featuring a panel talk with famed DJ and legendary sneaker collaborator Bobbito Garcia, a.k.a. Kool Bob Love, sneaker customization demos, and a popup market with local sneakerheads curated by SoleSpace, the night promises more than its fair share of style.
