Telling Oakland’s Story Through Zines

In the video above, youth from the YMCA of the East Bay’s summer camp made zines in a workshop with Rock Paper Scissors’ member Kristi Holohan, and responded to questions about where they live from their own perspectives.

Special exhibition Oakland, I want you to know… touches on topics of gentrification, displacement, and community resilience. OMCA Connect works with local neighborhood organizations to bring participatory art projects to events and communities immediately surrounding the Museum. This year, OMCA Connect bloggers asked event participants to respond to the many issues and themes present in the exhibition. Oaklanders’ voices, stories, and images also appear in a new zine, Lost + Found, made in collaboration with Rock Paper Scissors. Read the zine below in full, or pick up a copy in the exhibition now through October 30.
