Sculpture adventures in the OMCA Garden

As you walk up the steps to Oakland Museum of California’s Oak Street entrance, a glimpse of contrasting layers of powder-coated steel in bright colors, electrifying shapes, and dynamic patterns against the backdrop of a bright blue sky peeks through, energizing the space. The newest sculpture in OMCA’s iconic gardens, Glimmer by Linda Fleming is a site-specific installation on the third level terraces that brings vibrancy to the garden.

The newest sculpture in OMCA’s iconic gardens, Glimmer by Linda Fleming is a site-specific installation on the third level terraces that brings vibrancy to the garden. It literally glimmers in the golden light, casting delicate shadows on the ubiquitous aggregate concrete of the Museum’s structure.

For more on this unique sculpture, check out the timelapse video above showing the installation process from start to finish.

OMCA joins sites graced by Fleming’s sculptures that range from San Francisco’s Union Square to the International Quilt Study Center in Lincoln, Nebraska, the Denver Botanic Gardens to the Laumeier Sculpture Park in St Louis, Missouri. The commission was made possible by a generous gift of Frances Hellman and Warren Breslau.
