By OMCA Staff

December might be the end of the year, but we’re not slowing down anytime soon. This month is filled with events and activities to make your holiday season extra fun. Our festivities kick off this weekend, so start making your plans now!

1. OMCA Member Sale
Are you ready for it? From Friday, December 1 to Sunday, December 3, OMCA Members enjoy an extra 10% off for their regular Member discount at the OMCA Store, for a total of 20% off regularly priced items. That means your gift list is going to be finished a whole lot sooner than you expected, complete with locally made gifts, artisanal wares, fantastic books, and unique presents for kids. Not a Member yet? Join now and start saving this weekend—then enjoy a whole year of perks at OMCA.

2. Showga
Your favorite yoga experience paired with art and live music is in the house on Wednesday, December 6. Oakland’s own Showga is happening inside our special exhibition, Nature’s Gift: Humans, Friends & the Unknown, for a yoga experience that will activate all of your senses. Then stick around for the after-party with bites from Aburaya, drinks from Lagunitas Brewing Company, ice cream from Humphry Slocombe, and more surprises night-of! This event is for yogis and concert-lovers 21 and older. Buy tickets now!

3. Friday Nights @ OMCA — Winter Fest
We’re wrapping up the 2017 Friday Nights @ OMCA with a dynamic holiday festival filled with music, dance, and more. Celebrate the diverse winter traditions reflected here in the Bay Area and watch special performances by Gamelan Sekar Jaya Ensemble. Come by the OMCA Store for a chance to meet one of the artists from Question Bridge: Black Males, Chris Johnson, and get your Question Bridge book signed. Families, we’ve got an extra-packed schedule of hands-on activities for you and the kids—don’t miss the in-gallery acoustic musical event created by Thingamajigs (admission required). And, of course, children 18 and under are free, with half-price admission for adults. We can’t wait! See the full schedule.

4. Take Root: Oakland Grows Food
Opening on Saturday, December 16, discover how and why food is grown right here in Take Root: Oakland Grows Food. This hands-on exhibition for the entire family explores what factors determine where, how, why, and what is grown throughout the city through interviews, illustrations, videos, and interactive gallery features. Plus, we want your stories! Visitors are invited to share personal stories, explore interactive activities, and gain a deeper understanding of Oakland’s agriculture.

5. Holiday Hours
Need help entertaining out-of-town guests? We’re staying open extra days this holiday season to help you show off your Museum. You’ll come away with plenty to talk about together after you visit popular special exhibition Nature’s Gift: Humans, Friends & the Unknown, the Days of the Dead exhibition Metamorphosis & Migration, the powerful video installation Question Bridge: Black Males, and our three galleries of California art, history, and natural science.

Plus, we've still got you covered for Friday night fun from 5 to 9 pm on December 22, December 29, and January 5: enjoy half-price admission to all our galleries, and head over to the cash bar inside the Nature's Gift exhibition for libations while you lounge. View holiday hours.
