Awardee: Anastasia Victor, Win Mixter and Team

The Victor/Mixter Team's sculptural installation references the triangular form of the sturdy trusses of the original East Span by drawing upon the notion of a deconstructed truss. The manifestation of this concept is used as an armature to present and explore qualities that are inherent to the experience of the bridge. Vertical strut members are exposed to honor the integrity and original form of the Bay Bridge. Using largely self-supporting structure, the pieces will be held in place by the forces of gravity and their own staggering heft. During the day, shadows cast through the bracing aim to suggest the passage of time. At night, the twisted form will be lit with LED's and will evoke a sense of continuous motion.
